There is plenty to do in the Shoalhaven

There are art galleries, libraries, wineries, places to eat and have fun, with a full array of sporting and social clubs catering for every interest. The Shoalhaven Entertainment Centre in Nowra provides a venue for plays, concerts and conferences.

Sport

Shoalhaven has a temperate climate and plenty of access to open space, national parks and state forests, sporting fields, waterways and other venues for sporting activities. The Shoalhaven River is renowned for waterskiing and boating as are the other inlets and lakes in the Shoalhaven. The Shoalhaven has produced national and international competitors in sports as diverse as equestrian to surfing.

Shoalhaven Council also operates Aquatic and Leisure Centres, and maintains ocean pools across the area. In addition, there are a number of private gyms and sporting clubs in the region offering a range of facilities and programs. 

Golf

With its spectacular scenery, the golf clubs in the Shoalhaven are a must-visit. With great locations situated through the Shoalhaven there are a range of ocean- or country-side courses to play a round or two – see a list here.

Parks

With 68% of the Shoalhaven’s total 4,660 km2 publicly owned, it is the perfect destination to experience the beauty of the outdoors, whether that be bushwalking, camping, fishing, bird watching or water sports.

Arts

Attracting a diverse range of internationally renowned artists, musicians and writers, Shoalhaven is also home to an established arts community, delivering many forms of expression and involvement across the region.

Set on the banks of the Shoalhaven River, Bundanon represents a quintessential piece of Australian history. As a national arts institution, home to Australia’s largest artist-in-residence program, the arts centre delivers an engaging calendar of exhibitions and events, from retreats and live music to contemporary exhibitions and legacy pieces, displayed across the Boyd Homestead and the architectural-masterpiece that is Bundanon.  

Shoalhaven City Council manages the The Shoalhaven Entertainment Centre and Shoalhaven Regional Gallery, as well as the Lady Denman Museum at Jervis Bay Maritime Museum in Huskisson. Each venue plays host to an ever-evolving catalogue of exhibitions, events and installations, working with some of the country’s leading talent.

Shoalhaven Entertainment Centre

The Shoalhaven Entertainment Centre is considered one of the most versatile venues in Australia. The Centre features a 914-seat auditorium, 192-seat studio and conference facilities. The auditorium has a capacity for 1000-1200 general floor admission and 200 reserved seating. The venue hosts dining occasions, expos, trade shows, live theatre and music events.

Libraries

The Shoalhaven has Public Libraries at Nowra, Ulladulla, Milton and Sanctuary Point as well as a mobile service.

Getting Around

Public Transport

The Shoalhaven covers a large geographic area – stretching 160 kilometres from north of Berry southwards to just north of Batemans Bay. Most travel in the Shoalhaven is done by car. The rail line connecting the Shoalhaven with Wollongong and Sydney has a terminus at Bomaderry, and offers 14 services a day. Local transport services are available to all trains providing connections to other parts of the Shoalhaven. Local bus services radiate from Nowra and Ulladulla to other centres for workers, school students and shoppers.
