A new trial is rolling out in regional NSW to test expanding community transport eligibility to help transport disadvantaged people access education, training and employment.
Currently, community transport is a service available to transport disadvantaged people such as eligible seniors, pensioners, those with accessibility needs or those who have limited access to public transport.
Under the trial, Transport for NSW will fund 16 community transport providers to expand eligibility to people with limited or no private or public transport access who need to attend face-to-face study at TAFE NSW, a Registered Training Organisation (RTO), or attend work as an apprentice or trainee.
The trial will be tailored to local community needs and delivered by trusted local organisations.
The trial will be closely monitored, with feedback from customers and providers helping to inform future options. The trial is time-limited and will run until 30 June 2027, with start dates varying across regions.
