The Electric Vehicle Council has recently announced the launch of EV Friendly Towns, a new NSW Government-funded awards program recognising communities that make it easier and more enjoyable for EV drivers to visit.
As EV adoption grows, towns with reliable charging and a welcoming visitor experience are well placed to attract travellers, support local businesses and strengthen regional tourism.
Eligible councils, tourism organisations, visitor information centres, chambers of commerce and other organisations can apply on behalf of a NSW town. Applicants will be assessed across three population categories, with winners recognised for their leadership in supporting EV tourism and all eligible applicants receiving feedback to help improve their EV friendliness.
Participating towns can:
- showcase their support for EV travellers;
- strengthen links between EV charging, tourism and local business;
- identify opportunities to enhance the visitor experience; and
- receive recognition and feedback to support future improvements.
Key dates
- Applications open: 30 July 2026
- Information Session 1: 11 August 2026, 10:00–11:00 am AEST
- Information Session 2: 10 September 2026, 12:00–1:00 pm AEST
- Applications close: 25 September 2026
- Awards announcement and event: November–December 2026
