August has arrived in the Shoalhaven, bringing with it a vibrant mix of celebration, innovation, and community connection. From the regular Markets, to music gigs and Science Week events, this month is packed with opportunities to engage, learn, and grow. Check out the full list of upcoming events HERE.
This month we look at ways you can promote your event.
Promoting Your Event – Engage Local Media
Getting media coverage can boost attendance and community engagement. Here are some tips:
- Write a Media Release – Include the who, what, when, where, and why of your event. Add quotes from organisers or performers and high-quality images.
- Build Relationships – Reach out to local newspapers (e.g. South Coast Register), radio stations (e.g. 2ST), and community newsletters. Introduce yourself and offer exclusive stories or interviews.
- Be Newsworthy- Highlight unique aspects—first-time events, local talent, charitable causes, or cultural significance.
- Use Social Media Strategically- Tag local media outlets, use relevant hashtags, and encourage attendees to share their experiences.
- Offer Media Access- Invite journalists to attend your event, provide press passes, and follow up with post-event highlights and photos.
